Personal Statement

I am excited to announce my candidacy for Treasurer of NAPABA. Having served as the NAPABA Treasurer from 2016 2017, I have become familiar with NAPABA’s financial affairs and would like to (1) provide sound financial oversight and reporting; and (2) take a proactive role to improve NAPABA’s financial condition.

Knowledge is power. Therefore, I want to empower NAPABA’s leaders and members with clear financial reports, concise financial dashboards, and crisp budgets. Through financial awareness, NAPABA can identify operational strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for growth. Financial oversight and reporting will be critical next year because NAPABA has been continuously increasing its programming.

Because NAPABA has been increasing its programming, I want to take a proactive role to diversify NAPABA’s revenue stream in order to balance the budget. Most of NAPABA’s income is derived from sponsorships at the annual Convention.

Consistent with NAPABA’s Strategic Plan, I would like to develop a plan to generate new revenue from non-Convention programming throughout the year. This additional revenue is necessary for the long-term financial viability of NAPABA as it continues to grow and offer new programs and services for its members and the Asian Pacific American (“APA”) community.

Accomplishing these goals will be challenging because NAPABA already offers these services for little or no cost. But I believe we can lower overhead by partnering with other APA organizations and increase revenue by charging reasonable fees for exceptional new programs.

I believe I can accomplish these goals because I have institutional knowledge of NAPABA’s programming and financial affairs as the current Treasurer of NAPABA and former NAPABA Southern California Regional Governor.  I have also attended Lobby Day the past five years, I am a graduate of the inaugural Collaborative Bar Leadership Academy, I Co-Chaired the NAPABA Western Regional Conference, and I am a recipient of the NAPABA Best Under 40 Award.

I also believe I am qualified to be NAPABA Treasurer because I serve on the Board of Directors for Altura Credit Union and I also have experience as treasurer for the Asian Pacific American Lawyers of the Inland Empire. I have seen how a strong financial foundation enables an organization to provide significant resources and benefits to its members. Conversely, I have seen the perils of inaccurate budgeting and the detrimental effect of poor financial planning.

As the NAPABA Treasurer, I pledge to be a responsible steward of NAPABA’s financial affairs and look forward to your support.
